Financial Support for Research Exchanges/Short Term Scientific Missions

The aim of a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) is to contribute to the scientific objectives of a COST Action. MUMIA is pleased to offer financial support for a small number of Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM) to researchers who wish to visit a research institution or lab in another COST member country participating in MUMIA. Missions (Exchange Visits) are aimed at strengthening the existing networks by allowing scientists to go to an institution or laboratory in another COST Country to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution/laboratory. MUMIA STSM are specifically targeted towards young researchers and PhD students, who want to use the opportunity of visiting a specific research lab for a certain period of time to collaborate on and learn about techniques related to MUMIA aims and objectives.

In general, those wishing to visit a research lab in any of the MUMIA partner countries are invited to contact the hosting lab they want to visit and to subsequently submit an application for financial support. Submission deadlines will be roughly in quarterly intervals up to the maximum number of grants available per year (4 to 6 for year 2011). The financial contribution covers travel and living support up to certain maximum contribution (normally in the range of 1000 to 1500 EUR it can be little higher for longer visits of younger/PhD scientists).

How to Apply

1) The STSM Applicant should e-mail to the host institution to obtain their agreement

2) The STSM Applicant must use the on-line registration tool to register their request for a STSM.

3) After encoding the information via the on-line registration tool a formal STSM application (in PDF format) will be issued. The application has to be downloaded and sent electronically by e-mail together with the agreement of the host institution and any necessary document which is helpful in supporting the application such as your CV, full workplan etc to :

the Host institution of the STSM

4) The STSM panel of the MUMIA Cost Action decides and informs successful applicants about acceptance of STSMs.

5) Reimbursement is completed after completion of the STSM according to COST rules and procedures.
